How can we begin to define the contribution that culture makes to an organization’s economic success? In “The Confucius Connection: From Cultural Roots to Economic Growth” (Organizationa Dynamics, Winter 1988), Geert Hofstede and Michael Bond argue that the recent surge in several East Asian economies may be rooted in the cultural tenets of Kong Fu Ze (named Confucius by Jesuit missionaries).
