Trends and visualization in honey and diabetes mellitus study from 1953 to 2022

Context: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a globally emerging health issue, ranking among the top five contributors to mortality and morbidity worldwide. Numerous studies have diligently identified efficacious treatments for DM, and honey is a natural ingredient of interest among the alternatives explored in the field of anti-diabetic therapy. Aims: To determine study trends related to honey and DM.

Methods: Bibliometric analysis used the Scopus database, and VOSviewer software was used to analyze countries, journals, and keywords. The study carried out on September 28, 2022, found a total of 586 documents in the period 1953 to 2022. The search used the keywords honey AND diabet* with restrictions on the source type of journals.

Results: The results showed that publications on honey and DM had grown significantly in the last ten years. United States was a leading country in honey and DM study, accounting for the most significant number of publications worldwide, with authors and research institutes. Nutrient Journal stood out as a major periodical and keyword analysis showed that studies on honey and DM were focused on themes related to humans, glucose blood levels, and wound healing.

Conclusion: Bibliometric analysis provided relevant information on the main themes studied on honey and DM. © 2024 Journal of Pharmacy & Pharmacognosy Research,
